Part I: LANGUAGES
English

I PU
The Course Book: World View
Workbook : Word View
The revised syllabus in English has fourteen teaching
units and facilitates reading comprehension and appreciation
of longer narratives, comprising a wide range of themes,
registers and language use.
The workbook contains exercises on reference,
writing and speaking skills, which are in tune with contemporary
language use.

Course Book: Ennoble
Workbook : Ennable
The course book consists of fourteen texts, which is of
a slightly higher order, concerning themes that are not
dealt with in the first PU course Book. The work Book
focuses on correct language use and writing skills.
OPTIONAL LANGUAGES
Kannada
- I PU
The syllabus includes selected poetical works of
Pampa, Basavanna -Amugerayamma, Harihara, Kumaravyasa, Purandaradasa,
D. R. Bendre, Kuvempu, P. Lankesh, L. Hanumantaiah and folk
poetry; Short stories and essays of Maasti, Simpi Linganna,
Kodagina Gouramma, Rahamat Tarikere, J.T. Ligade, M. S.
Sunkapura, Shivaram Karanth ; Play on Kanakadasa by K.R.
Nagaraj.
Workbook : It is based on text book questions related
to grammar (Tatsama-Tadbhava, Dwirukti, Viruddha pada, etc)
and will be evaluated based on prescribed criteria.
The assignment will be based on the topics from
classical or modern text.
- II PU
The II PU syllabus is based not only on literature
enhancement but also in developing individual soft skills
abilities. The poetical works of Ranna, Jedara Dasimayya-
Aydakki Lakkamma, Raghavanka, Kanakadasa, Sanchiya Honnamma,
Kavyananda, G.S Shivarudrappa, Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy, Jambanna
Amarachinta, Savita Nagabhushana; The prose works of P.
C. Tejaswi, Sara Abubkar, S.K. Ranganath, D.R Nagaraj, Nagesh
Hegade, and Shivakotyacharya; A play on 'Ekalavya' (character
from Mahabharatha dealt from Dalit point of interpretation)
by Dr. Sidhalingaiah.
Workbook : Student oriented 'Prayoga Chandana'
is given to develop communication skills.
The assignments are based on modern Kannada prose
and poetry.
Hindi
- I PU
The syllabus comprises of five main parts namely
prose, poetry, stories, grammar and work book. The prose
covers different topics of social and cultural essays, biographies,
travelogue, one act plays, scientific and environmental
awareness. Poetry covers different poems of medieval and
modern poets and non-detailed part consists of selected
short stories.
The workbook consists of questions from grammar
portion related to the prescribed textbook and general knowledge.
Assignments are based on topics related to the
textbook.
- II PUC
The syllabus comprises of mainly four parts gadhya,
padhya and novel. The prose covers different topics related
to social and cultural awareness with biographies, travelogue,
one act play etc. Padhya part consists of medieval and modern
poetry; and their theme is totally based on high moral values.
The work book is purely based on basic grammar
to improve the knowledge of an individual.
Assignments are based on topics related to social,
cultural and moral awareness.
French
- I PU
The students opting for French are the beginners.
Therefore, the basic topics are included in the syllabus,
such as meetings, sympathies, tastes and preferences, agreement
and disagreement, surprises, the country side house, meal
at Broussac, noise and disappearance, disguise and mardi
gras. These topics help the students to have a minimal idea
about France, its culture, tradition, society and festivals.
Each lesson is supported with grammar like definite,
indefinite, partitif and dative articles, number-cardinal
and ordinal, timings, number and gender of nouns and adjectives,
the negative form, demonstrate if and possess if adjectives,
prepositions and adverbs of quality and place emphatic
pronouns, different group of verbs and their conjugation
in present and imperative tense.
The workbook consists of more exercises in grammar,
puzzles, riddles and jokes to make the learning a fun
filled one.
The workbook consists of questions from grammar

Assignments are based on topics related to the
textbook.
- II PUC
The lessons are very busy managing director, the
mysterious disappearance, the investigation begins, the
investigation continues, dramatic turn of events, plans,
breaks down, discovery, conflicts and towards the future.
The lessons give the students an idea of the different designations
in French. The agricultural, developed and developing areas
of France. The grammar consists of different types of pronouns,
degrees of comparisons and the other tenses in the verb
conjugation.
The workbook consists of lot of grammar exercises to compliment
the text book. There are also a lot of puzzles, riddles
and jokes, to make the students get a fun-filled learning
experience.
Assignments are given based on the topics related
to the syllabus. The conjugation of verbs in different tenses
is an important assignment.
Part II OPTIONAL SUBJECTS
COMMERCE

I PU
History of India till 1707 with special Reference
to Karnataka: - The first part of history includes, Ancient
Indian History Introduction to history, Indus and Vedic
civilizations, Rise of Jainism and Buddhism, Mauryas and
Guptas. The second part of Medieval Indian History includes:
- Delhi sultanate, Mughal empire - Akbar, rise of Marathas,
Shivaji, Bhakti movement - Kabir, Guru Nanak etc. Ancient
and Medieval Karnataka history: - Sathavahanas to Modern
period upto Nayakas of Chitradurga. The third and last
part of syllabus deals with map work, where the students
are taught drawing the maps, marking of the extent, important
locations, historical importance of the places etc.

II PU
History of Modern India - Karnataka and Contemporary
World: - The part of Modern India includes advent of Europeans
in India down to Indian freedom struggle upto 1947. Modern
Karnataka: - Rise of Hyder Ali down to unification of
Karnataka upto 1973. Modern world:- Geographical discoveries,
Renaissance, age of revolutions and nationalism, World
wars and internal organizations, contemporary world, India
and her neighbors, India and non-alignment, China under
Mao-Tse-Tung, India and SAARC, liberation movement in
South Africa under Nelson Mandela, disintegration of USSR
and domination of USA. The fourth part deals with map
work, which includes European settlements in India , important
centers of First war of Indian Independence and places
of historical importance.
Economics
-
I PU
The first year syllabus aims at imparting fundamentals
of economics. The topic includes: introduction to economics,
consumption, production, cost, revenue and market structures,
elements of welfare economics, national income, theory
of money, international trade and finance.

II PU
The second PU syllabus builds on the fundamental
concepts learnt by the students in the first year. The
topics are human resource development, agriculture, industrial
development, labour policy, economic infrastructure, foreign
trade, public finance, and economic planning.
Business Studies

I PU
The syllabus covers topics like nature of business,
form of business ownership, proprietary concerns, partnership
firms, joint stock, company formation and liquidation
of a company, co-operative society, government undertaking,
public utilities, internal trade, multi national companies,
business management, business communication, contemporary
issues in business, computer in business are the various
chapters spread through out the whole year.

Topics for II year comprises of industry, marketing,
foreign trade, business finance, money and capital market,
service sector and business, social responsibility of
business, consumer protection, career opportunity in business
and computers in business.
Accountancy
-
I PU
The syllabus deals with the basics of accountancy
and book - keeping. The topics covered are journal, subsidiary
books, ledger, cashbook, bank reconciliation statements,
bills of exchange, rectification of errors, journal proper,
trial balance and final accounts.

II PU
The syllabus includes single entry, fundamentals
of partnership, admission of partnership, retirement
of partner, death of partner, dissolution of partnership,
joint stock companies, final accounts of companies,
depreciation accounts, non- trading concerns and computerized
accounting.
Basic Mathematics
-
I PU
The syllabus consists of four parts: algebra,
mathematical finance, trigonometry and co-ordinate geometry.
In algebra, we have number theory, sets relations, functions,
theory of indices, logarithms, progressions and theory
of equations. Mathematical finance includes interest and
annuities. Trigonometry consists of trigonometric ratios,
standard angles, allied angles, heights and distances.
In co-ordinate system, locus, straight lines and linear
functions.

II PU
The topics of the syllabus cover: mathematical
logic, permutation, combination, probability, binomial
theorem, partial fractions, matrices and determinants
in algebra; ratio, proportions, variations, averages,
bill discounting, stocks, shares, learning curve and linear
programming in arithmetic; circles and parabola in geometry;
limits, continuity, differential calculus, application
of derivatives, integration, definite integral and applications
of definite integrals in calculus
Statistics

I PU
The topics include introduction, statistical
investigation and organization of data, presentation of
data, analysis of univariate data, analysis of bivariate
data, elements of probability theory, random variable
and mathematical expectations and computers for data processing.

II PU
The II PU syllabus aims at developing reasoning
skills through vital statistics, index numbers, time series
analysis, theoretical distribution, statistical inference,
operation research and statistical quality control.
